Bespoke Bench Seating: Combining Craftsmanship, Comfort and Character
Bespoke seating made in Norwich
When standard furniture doesn't quite work for a space, bespoke bench seating offers the opportunity to create something that is both practical and distinctive.
Recently, the Sit A Bit team manufactured a bespoke bench seating project in Norwich, combining traditional upholstery techniques with a classic deep-button finish and a rich bottle green fabric.
The result is a piece of furniture that is designed specifically for the space rather than adapted from an off-the-shelf product.
Made in our Norwich workshop
Every bespoke seating project starts with the requirements of the space.
Dimensions, proportions, layout, comfort and overall appearance all need to work together. Our team manufactures the seating from the ground up, allowing us to control the construction, detailing and final finish.
For this project, the bench seating was manufactured in our Norwich workshop before being prepared for upholstery.
This approach means we can create seating to suit the exact requirements of a project, whether that means working around unusual dimensions, incorporating curves or creating a particular style of finish.
Classic deep-button upholstery
One of the standout features of this seating is the deep-button detailing.
Deep buttoning is a traditional upholstery technique that adds depth, texture and character to upholstered furniture. It can instantly give a piece a more tailored and sophisticated appearance.
For this project, the deep-button finish works particularly well with the rich green upholstery, creating a classic look that still feels appropriate within a contemporary commercial environment.
Cambio Bottle Green by Cristina Marrone
The seating was upholstered in Cambio Bottle Green from Cristina Marrone.
The deep bottle green provides a strong, sophisticated colour while complementing the traditional detailing of the deep-button upholstery.
Choosing the right fabric is an important part of any bespoke seating project. The material needs to work visually with the surrounding interior while also being appropriate for the intended environment and level of use.
Why choose bespoke bench seating?
Bespoke bench seating can offer several advantages over standard furniture.
It makes better use of space
Fixed or made-to-measure seating can be designed around the exact dimensions of a room, making use of areas where conventional furniture may not fit efficiently.
It creates a strong design feature
Seating doesn't have to simply be functional. With the right fabric, shape and detailing, it can become an important part of the overall interior design.
It can be manufactured to your requirements
From the size and shape of the frame to the upholstery, stitching, piping and buttoning, bespoke seating gives designers and clients much greater control over the finished product.
It can create a consistent interior
For hospitality, restaurants, hotels and other commercial environments, bespoke seating can be produced to complement a wider interior scheme and create a consistent look throughout a space.
